In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The title of the magazine Chart is a simple one syllable word with connotations to the music charts, which are constantly updated to keep the public aware of what is recent and best selling, therefore the name chart gives the magazine reference to being recent, up to date, and linked to music. The masthead lies in the typical left hand corner of the front cover this ensures the name of the magazine can be seen clearly to ensure the magazine secures its identification. The title is also in bold black which I feel highlights its dominance upon the page to inform readers, this is what I am called, this is what I am about.

The mise en scene of images showing the girls share a similar style with slight variations which is typical of what you'd expect from a stylish new girl group. Purposely I took this image outside of school to ensure the girls where dressed how you would expect a girl group to dress for example they're wearing good clothes, make up, and hair done whereas if the photo was taken in college they would have been more casual which wouldn’t show the girls to be ‘pop’ ‘hip’ or as famous as they're made out to be on the front cover. For my Pixie Quinn model I chose a girl with a well constructed styled outfit, because Pixie Quinn is having an issue within the magazine about her fashion line and solo career, this is also why I chose a close up mid shot to show her confident facial expression that suggests her confidence is high. The free magazine advertised uses three males all of which are tall, wearing smart casual outfits. Typically what you’d expect from a young starting boy group. The boys have messy but styled hair they don’t have ‘old’ faces which is a key factor as it links to the ‘type’ of boys the girls in the magazine would have a fancy for.
The final version of the front cover (above)

The old version of front cover
This links to costumes and props, all models are wearing their own choice of clothes as that maintains their personalities that happen to suit the type expected of in my magazine. I didn’t want to use any props for ‘sugarmix’ as it would break and distract from their bold stance. As for the other models on the front cover the image sizes are quite small with the shots being mid shot close up and a mid shot therefore I didn’t feel the need to use props as the shots capture enough expressions and body language needed. The people included are around a similar age I find this important for keeping everything  consistent, stereotypically the young groups and artists are more likely to attract my target audience,  if I was to use an older model they may give off connotations of having different styles that would suggest their music to be older with no  relation to my target audience. This is why I specifically used the younger models, also it is rarer to find music magazines that use a convention of having a vast target audience.. so by acknowledging this I purposely stuck to the age category for my target audience. The written content relates to music magazines by mentioning ‘solo career’ ‘lyrics’ with also the connotations of being an interesting magazine by using key words such as ‘exclusive interview. I consciously tried to use standard writing techniques to keep my text and writing interesting, different so it wasn’t a continuous page of information by using such techniques like pull quotes, these are effective for informing readers of what the text is about and what the tone is, I tried to make my double page spread photo match the pull quote s that it set a tone for the pages. . the written content also follows typical magazine conventions as it is used in font size 11 in columns, this assuming being appropriate and not too advanced for my target audience. I purposely set out the columns to look full of information, yet not to look like they ere long or Boring to read. This is crucial as I feel my target audience appreciate such items like pull quotes, images, not a page full of many long advanced words.

Music genre and how your magazine suggests it, my music genre is pop which stereotypically is aimed at girls for instance the CD that is released regularly ‘pop princess’ which includes music from girl groups, solo females, and boy bands. Therefore the method I used to capture this was by having a girl group as the main image on the front cover with a cute name with innocent sweet connotations ‘sugarmix’ however the appearance of the girls can challenge this as the mid centre girl has a crop top which reveals a small part of her naval. The girl to the right wears a black tight dress with netted sleeves which could have sexualised connotations, however this is crucial as in society today it is the girl groups that look good that are generally more successful, well known, promoted, and idolised such as little mix or the Saturdays whereas in comparison to a female singer who is greatly talented such as Adele there are less teenage girls that will aspire to dress like this artist, they’re more likely to imitate dance moves, styles from the younger ‘hotter’ groups. Also the use of the one dimension poster suggests my target audience are younger, they're still likely to stick up a poster in a bedroom, to a band they often listen to because pop songs from bands similar to my group are often played on the radio, as their music is popular.. the fact my magazine is called ‘Chart’  with its connotations to recency and music means the models on the front cover had to include a sense of style that could be said to be stylish and popular, especially to my target audience.

Layout
When looking at the front cover I would say the layout is similar to media conventions. The masthead lies in an easily identifiable place, the image has the girls eye line approximately two thirds down to grab the target audiences attention. I have included more than one image and more than one font style and colour to give connotations of my magazine being busy. There is a bar code and issue number included on the front cover as well as the magazines website name just below this to show that there is an established line of work supporting the magazine. All of which I feel creates realism that would make the front cover appear to be successful. The use of the barcode on the bottom is successful for verisimilitude

contents page
My contents page conforms to the conventions of a normal music magazines. With the sub headings to make identification of different sections faster, use of images to take up a lot of space, this is which I find to be useful for making my magazine appear busy, by using a variety of models this just makes my magazine appear to be in more than one area, with a range of contacts. The page numbers used down go ‘1, 2, 3 , 4’ as this wouldn’t be realistic. I put thought into the numbers by thinking about the front cover features how they would be closer to the front of the magazine whereas something smaller mentioned such as ‘festival line ups’ that could be further back as that information would be created from the organisation behind the festival, not the magazine itself therefore it wouldn’t be as prioritised.
