Who would be the audience for your media product?
The typical target audience for my magazine which is a pop genre magazine, would be young teenagers ranging from 16-20 however the content is varied within meaning if a mature 14 year old were to read the magazine she wouldn’t be at a loss, the content is clear and appropriate, it is just suitable for the genre. The music styles vary from pop girl groups that produce typical dance party music, to the boy bands that have huge girl fan bases, music from solo artist females that may produce country pop (a real life example being taylor swift) I don’t want my first issue magazine to give connotations of discrimination towards any other music styles or artists, I find that it is crucial in the first issue to maintain such variations at least until a secure target audience is obtained that I could do further market research on.
The reader genre and target audience mood boards were a main insight as to the target audience that would be for my music magazine. I assume this target audience to be on social networking sights, this is why I included the magazines own ‘glisser’ account, an account that the fans can follow and write to on social networking sites. The magazine also has its own website page for the sake of realism. With the magazine being aimed at younger people of society I assume they would download their music online rather than buy CDs, therefore I include a free poster with my magazine, as online downloads such as albumns sont include the usual lyric books with pictures in of the artist.
I also believe that my target audience are interested in styles and being up to date with what is happening, almost like a gossip magazine but for the music world to keep the readers informed on upcoming tours and CDs. Once again this is why I chose ‘Chart’ for the magazine name, for the connotations from it.
